Mangrove

Mangrove is a shrub or small tree that grows in coastal saline or brackish water. The term is also used for tropical coastal vegetation consisting of such species. Mangroves occur worldwide in the tropics      and subtropics, mainly between latitudes 25° N and 25° S. The total mangrove forest area of the world in 2000 was 137,800 square kilometres (53,200 sq mi), spanning 118 countries and territories.Mangroves are salt-tolerant trees, also called halophytes, and are adapted to life in harsh coastal conditions. They contain a complex salt filtration system and complex root system to cope with  salt water immersion and wave action. They are adapted to the low oxygen (anoxic) conditions of waterlogged mud.

Panorama

Nusa Lembongan is approximately 8 square kilometres in area with a permanent population estimated at 5,000.Twelve kilometres of the Badung Strait separates Nusa Lembongan from Bali Island. The island is surrounded by coral reefs with white sand beaches and low limestone cliffs. Nusa Lembongan is separated from Nusa Ceningan by a shallow estuarine channel which is difficult to navigate at low tide. There are no permanent waterways on Nusa Lembongan. There is a suspension bridge linking Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan which takes foot and motorbike traffic only.

Devil Tear

What makes Devil’s Tears such an epic spot is in the name. Waves come crashing into the cove and like a blowhole, come spitting out with such force they blow a mist or ‘tears’ up into the air. That’s my interpretation of the name anyhow! When you arrive at Devil’s Tears you might be a bit alarmed at the number of tourists at this site. It seems to be a popular day trip for many tour companies. However, once you clear the initial section most of the tourists don’t venture down the coast to the tidepools.

Dream Beach

Dream Beach is the most popular stretch of sand on the island of Nusa Lembongan. The small bay is enclosed by cliffs on either side and the crystal clear water exposes a nice reef below the surface. Bars and hotels line the beach in what has become a very touristy location. However, it is still worth visiting Dream Beach on Nusa Lembongan, especially with the tips inside this blog post.<

Yellow Bridge

The Yellow Bridge connects Nusa Lembongan with Nusa Cenengan, so if you’re heading from one to the other you literally can’t miss it.If you’re travelling over from Bali you’ll most likely arrive at Mushroom Beach ferry port in Lembongan. From here you can grab a scooter for around 70,000 IDR per day. Or barter with the local taxi drivers to take you around the island.Everywhere on Nusa Lembongan is reachable within a 30 minute drive. So renting a scooter for the duration of your stay and exploring on two wheels is definitely the easiest option.
